When I saw this picture, that is the inspiration for this week’s City Crafter Challenge, Home for Christmas, it immediately made me think of Christy Tomlinson’s block snowmen and Christmas trees.  I love her style and, as you know,  have been doing a couple of her work shops. I’m still not quite managing to get it right, but I couldn’t resist giving it a try for this challenge.

Sorry it’s not a great picture – at the moment it seems to be either too dark or, as it was today, incredibly bright sunshine.

Iwas going to do this as a card, but instead did on a little 7 x 5 canvas. I wish I’d done it as a card now!  I started by creating the background – white acrylic paint just smeared on with my fingers. I also smudged on a little off white to try and pick up the colours from the photo. I sprinkled a little crystal clear glitter over the top to give it some sparkle.

Whilst the background was drying, I cut strips of pink designer paper plus a little rectangle for the trunk. I layered up each strip and glued them down with Modpodge then brushed Modpodge over the top too. I used a snowflake stamp and some pink ink to stamp snowflakes all over the background, then blobbed on some white pearl acrylic paint.

At the top of the tree I added a white seam binding bow, a pink glittered star and two silver baubles.

To finish off, I added a strip of pink border to the top and bottom of the canvas and some Artchix words. Finally, I stamped some larger snowflakes in pink

Shame about the pictures because, in reality, it’s quite bright and sparkly.

Now I don’t want to cause alarm, but it is now only a month until Christmas! So with that in mind I think I can now “officially” start doing Christmas projects – yippee!!
